I’m in awe of the different innovations that have come up in the market targeting parents with young kids, especially babies. When I had Miss 9, the nappy bags were daggy ones, those that actually looked like nappy bags. Now, with brands like Oi Oi, Isoki, and Storksak, you’ll be spoilt for choice! You can look glamorous and still have a functional bag, even if some of them cost more than what you think you would pay for, but if you knew you were going to have more than one child – think of how far that bag would go or even if you’re not planning on another child, you can then use it as a normal bag.
And then there’s the cool and funky prams. They are not bulky compared to the ones I used to push around and they are easy to manoeuvre too! The Bugaboo, Phil and Teds, and so far that’s all I know, because I’m so out of touch with them having NOT to use one for over 3 years now, unless you count a stroller. And even that, there are nice and funky ones available.
I’ve recently heard another new thing that’s just come up on the market. To help differentiate amongst the many prams out there – Baby Rego! Yes you read it right, a rego plate for your pram. Imagine that. It is great though to have a personalised rego plate to give as a baby shower. And if you don’t want people to know your baby’s real name, maybe just have some initials – YOUR initials if you want, because yes, the baby does belong to you and you can still re-use it if you have another baby down the road. These plates can be personalised either by adding your child’s birth date and name or a symbol and name. Personally I’d go for my own initials with a symbol, that way I know it’s my pram.
The other thing I came across a few years back, when my youngest was already out of his onesies, was these things called “Little Extensions“. Innovated by a Melbourne Mum who was so sick of her onesies not fitting her child lengthwise. It’s these detachable extensions that you put on the onesies so your little one can continue wearing them lengthwise! What a great way to save money on buy unnecessary clothes for babies that you know would grow out of them so quickly.
The last bit of cool item I recently discovered was the teething bling. Notice how your baby or rather a baby would normally grab a necklace you’re wearing and chew on it? This usually made me steer away from wearing any necklaces. But these “teehting blings” are made from the same material as teething toys, the discs on the necklace look like a normal precious stone pendant. They are however soft and yes – chewable of course! They even have bangles if you’re not a fan of necklaces. They are pretty simple yet funky in design.
What about you? Have you come across any new innovations that you wished were around when your kids were babies?
