A Simple Yet Beautiful Gift

A Simple Yet Beautiful Gift

Last Friday, when I went to the Bloggers Brunch, I was given these by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock.

Clay Beads

Aren’t they gorgeous? Kim made these herself, these gorgeous clay beads. I just love how simple they are, with the beautiful blue swirls. I was thinking of making a short necklace with this. Maybe using a leather cord. Then I thought, I might actually make a bracelet, seeing that there’s a higher likelihood of me wearing a bracelet compared to a necklace.

My girls got some too, but I didn’t have a chance to photograph them because they’ve already hidden it from me. Miss 7 was thinking of making a bracelet too, and Miss 9, well she hasn’t shared her ideas with me yet. But I’ll be sure to share with you the end result soon. And a huge thank you to Kim for giving me more beads to share with my kids!

Here are a few more shots of the beads. Maybe you can give me an idea of what I can create or what patterns I should make out of these gorgeous beads. You should also check out Kim’s gallery. I’m so in love with the ceramic cups!

Sharing your favourite hobby with your kids.

Sharing your favourite hobby with your kids.

Hobbies are a great thing to have. Keeps you occupied without stressing you out, is what I think hobbies do. I have a multitude of hobbies, from something as simple as reading to something more time consuming like sewing, cooking and baking. Having a hobby is also a good way of showing your kids that there are better ways of spending your time other than watching the television or DVDs.In most cases, we can also share our hobbies with our kids. For instance, I share my love of baking with all three of my kids by letting them get involved when I’m baking. They either help with the preparation, stirring or in the case of cookies, cutting them with the cookie cutters. This not only teaches them the art of baking, but also the different measurements, technique and appreciation for how the different foods are made.

To introduce them to the world of sewing, I have given them each a sewing kit, which has a template made of felt with holes already for them to “sew” their included needle through. The end product is usually what encourages them to finish their projects.

So, if you have any hobbies that you can share with your kids, do so. This will encourage some valuable use of time to the kids.

A gift that keeps on giving

A gift that keeps on giving

Buying gifts can be hard. Especially when you know the child has got almost EVERYTHING! What I love to give is really something that the child can not only use, but make things with and in turn give it to others. Crafty gifts are a favourite of mine. Most children love craft. One particular crafting project that I’ve just discovered is flower pressing.

Wooden Flower Press From our E-Shop

A simple act of collecting beautiful flowers, leaves, buds, and pressing it onto paper, which can be used to decorate a scrapbook, greeting cards or even do a plant study with! You child will be fascinated with what they can produce, just by flatening flowers onto paper or cards. Below are some ideas that could inspire your child or even you for your future projects.
