The Happiness Project

Happiness Project ChallengeAs most of you would know by now, my youngest, started school this year. It’s a big step for him and myself, especially having had someone there with me since I had my first child, most of the time. This year is the year where I start to re-discover myself, find out what I really want in life, where I would like to be and how I can get there. In other words, it’s a year all about ME. Sounds selfish when you think about it, but I think having put everyone else before myself for almost 10 years, it is high time that it happened. Also, with an almost near death occurrence in our family, it has forced me to put my life into perspective. With everything that is going on in the world and in our daily life, it’s sometimes hard to see the bigger picture. I think it’s rather unnecessary for us to wait for something bad to happen before before we learn to appreciate what we’ve got. We need find happiness in everyday of our lives. We need to appreciate what we have without waiting to hear the negative issues that surround us. We need to embrace life. So, Naomi from Seven Cherubs has come up with this FANTASTIC challenge called “The Happiness Project” and here’s the plan (in Naomi’s own words):

“Starting on April 10th and finishing on May 10th we take time each day to record and write one sentence on what has made us feel happy during that day or things that we are grateful for on that day.

At the end of the month after May 10th (I will let you know what date), we each publish as a blog post our one sentence monthly list and link up together here at Seven Cherubs so that we can each read what touched our hearts and made us happy. If you do not feel comfortable sharing all of your daily sentences then just share with us those that you do feel comfortable sharing. “

Sounds fantastic doesn’t it?  Goodness knows I need some happiness right now. So if you’re keen on joining in, link up here and take up this challenge.

It Started As An Idea….

It Started As An Idea….

Remember my last post about me fretting about my first world problems? Remember how Miss 9′s proposal of selling handmade items at school, to raise funds to save the turtles got the tick of approval by her school principal? And remember how worried I was that her stall would not create any interest? Well, I had worried over nothing! Here is the update:

  • Day 1 – Miss 9, Miss 7 and Miss 9′s best friend managed to sell the bookmarks they made and the friendship bracelets, and even had some lay bys! Oh and the boys bought the friendship bracelets too. Plus they were smart enough to sell them as pairs at a discount. Their selling point? You buy two and you can give the other one to your best friend, hence the term friendship bracelets!
  • Day 2 – Other kids at the school brought other stuff they didn’t want or need from home and brought it to the stall to be sold. Her best friend’s mum also made some other stuff that can be sold.
  • Day 3 – Sold more stuff that they had to make from the night before
  • Day 4 – Some more of their friends brought some great handmade stuff like soaps to sell at the stall.

They’ve now planned to make more things over the weekend. I’ve bought some plain wooden bookmarks for them to decorate and sell next week, and would probably make some rings too. I’m just amazed at how a small idea, that I thought was just something she concocted because she was bored during the holidays, became something that actually meant something. I am in awe of her determination and courage to actually a) approach her teacher, b) approach the principal. Bravo Miss 9, and bravo to the students in her school for having such a wonderful team spirit!

P.S: So far they’ve raised over $40, and hopefully would raise a lot more. Well done! :)

Challenging your child’s mathematical concept & spatial reasoning skills

Challenging your child’s mathematical concept & spatial reasoning skills

MiQube

This is a great game to challenge not only your child’s but also YOUR mathematical concept & spatial reasoning skills. It has 5 different games in one. Ages 7 and up.

Game 1: Domination

Dominate the board with your selected colour, while second guessing your opponents next move. A bit like tic tac toe really.

Game 2: Advance

Link each of your pieces as you ‘advance’ across the board, while fighting to capture both position and territory as you go.

Game 3: Gridlock

You can only use one game colour to prevent your opponent from making a move. “The last man standing” wins!

Game 4: Connect Five

A new twist to the traditional connect four! With 3D, this makes the game a lot make interesting!

Game 5:Puzzle

Try and assemble the 13 pieces into a perfect six sided cube. A tricky and new version of rubik’s cube!
