My fun filled weekend actually began on Friday morning, when I attended the Bloggers Brunch, which was hosted by Kids Business over at Family Life Home and Cafe in Prahran. The real “fun” began as I was getting ready in the morning, before having to drop the kids off to school. In came Miss 7 into the bathroom, all dressed in her uniform but, with one eye shut. Yes, she had a “bung” eye. No idea what it really was, just that it was a little bit red on the lid of her left eye and it hurt a little. I was devastated, not at the fact that she was hurting…but more because my carefully planned day would probably not eventuate after all. Yes, such a considerate Mum I was – thinking of myself. Miss 7 was convinced that she was fine to go to school, and I knew that she was, but I also knew the school would send her straight back home. So phone in hand, I rang all my contacts and thankfully found one to help me out with Miss 7. Thank you Suzie for stepping in so that I can fulfil my plans on attending the Bloggers Brunch. Just in case you were wondering, Miss 7 was fine, we suspect it was the pollen that affected her eye somehow.
So, my best laid plans went awry, when I had to drop off Miss 7 to Suzie’s place instead of zooming off to the train station as planned. Part of my plan was to meet up with Veronica from Sleepless Nights at 9:30am and take the train down together to Prahran station. I ended up being 15 or was it 20? minutes late. Thankfully she wasn’t mad. These things happen and being a Mum, she understood (at least I hope she did!). We got there just in time, or maybe even a few minutes late. There were lots of other bloggers there, packed to the brim, with lots of chattering, a male “wish fairy” that greeted us at the door, and the guest speakers.
The Guest Speakers were, clockwise L-R: Melinda Gainsford-Taylor, Nicole Avery, Susan Jackson, Bernadette Black, Heather James
Christie Nicholas from Kids Business in front of the lovely wooden carved podium where the guest speakers were seated
The theme of the brunch I believe was “Goals”. There were 5 guest speakers who shared their stories on how they achieved their goals through the adversity they faced in life. Very inspiring and in some ways I think are reachable. Thinking back, I guess, that day, I did achieve my goal – getting to the brunch. It might seem like a small insignificant event to some but to me it was huge – especially when faced with adversity – Miss 7′s bung eye! I didn’t give up, I didn’t cry (although I nearly threw my tantrum!), instead I looked for solutions and changed my original plan as I went. And I was glad I managed to attend the brunch to meet some lovely bloggers that I’ve never met before. I guess, like what Bernadette Black said, “the journey is different but the destination is the same“.
The Weight Watchers “Cook Hearty” cookbook with some lovely, decadent recipes.
We each got a showbag with lots of goodies in them, amongst that were some books by the guest speakers. I would have to find some time to go through them but I’m sure I won’t have any trouble using the Weight Watchers “Cook Hearty” recipe book, which has some great comfort foods that won’t kill your waistline!
HoMedics Shiatsu Massage Cushion rrp$299.95
Oh, and how can I forget the highlight of the brunch! I was actually one of those that won the HoMedics Total Coverage Shiatsu Massage Cushion that was worth $299.95 – and yes, I had to lug it home on the train – now THAT part nearly made me cry. But I think it will come to good use, because I think I’ve pulled a muscle on my shoulder.
Overall, I did have a fun time meeting the other bloggers, and I think as much as we had some cool stuff to take away with us, I guess it was the experience that really counted.
Stay tuned for my reviews on some awesome products I took home.
I loved listening to each of those women and hearing their stories. I so wish I had gotten a photo with Melinda. She is gorgeous! And I didn’t envy you having to lug that thing on the train home. Hope it helps your shoulder! x
I have yet to use it actually. I’ve got one that was “donated” by my father-in-law, that I’ve used a few times. I might donate this one to the school for their annual trivia night…?
You poor thing having to lug it home on the train! At least it was not a peak hour day gotta be grateful for that hun
What an awesome day that was the speakers where awesome and so inspiring
Let me know how it was after you use it ok
It wasn’t peak hour, BUT, there were so many high school kids at South Yarra station, when I had to change trains! No idea why, maybe lunch time?
Sure thing, will let you know if I end up using it.
Oooooh, how I would LOVE a massage cushion thing!! Hubby used to do it often when we were dating/engaged/newlyweds, but now that it’s been 2 and half years and 2 kids later, these have dribbled to almost non-existent unless I ask! *sigh* Enjoy your’s!
Hmmm….how come I’m not surprised re:not getting massages after you’re married for a few years? Same here! And worse still, hubs normally says I should give him one because he goes out to work – YEAH RIGHT! Like that’s going to happen. I do have a substitute though…Miss 7, she gives fantastic massages! Maybe I should pan her out and earn some money! LOL!:D
It must have been such an amazing experience to hear both Bernadette and Melinda speak!! I remember reading Berndette’s story in Take5 (or Thats Life) a few years ago and always admired her!!
Congrats on winning the massage thingy!!
Yes it was actually. I’m in awe of anyone teenage mum who can raise their child, finish school, and be successful, going against what people believe to be something that is next to impossible.
The brunch sounds great! Hmm, where are you going to put the massage cushion, on your blogging chair, lol, imagine, blogging and being massaged and the same time, might = bliss!!
Actually that sounds like a great idea…I wonder if it’ll fit my chair!
It really was a great day wasn’t it. So love catching up with friends and meeting new ones. Loved the talks and I so adore Melinda and wish I had a picture taken with her as well. Enjoy that massive massage cushion. N x

It was excellent meeting you on the day! You know, I was sooo behind on getting to every company’s table that I missed who the wish fairy winners were, so congrats!!
