Today – not counting the weekends of course, marks the first official day of the Victorian school term break. Well at least for those in State/Government schools. There are parents out there who are embracing, while others might not be – the school holidays. I on the other hand am so far loving it. Here are the reasons why:
- I get to sleep in – my kids have been “trained” not to wake me up and to get their own breakfast
- I get to lounge in my PJs all day if I choose to – usually I try not to plan to go anywhere. It’s been a long term and we all need a rest. Plus bringing 3 kids out, on my own, is NOT my idea of a holiday.
- No pre-made lunches to prepare. I can actually make toasted sandwiches, or we can have left overs for lunch.
- I get to do my work, while they are given activities to do – no disruptions with school or kinder pick ups.
- I get to play with the board games with the kids – without any disruptions as we have no plans on going anywhere.
What do YOU love about the school holidays? Share it with us. I’m sure that there are things you do love about it.
Day one for us saw a lazy start to the morning, pancakes for breaky, then to the sounds of Cats and Jack Johnson, we tackled the unfinished project from last holidays, the cardboard campervan (aka the barbie van). It now has wheels, seat belts, a steering wheel and pedals and inside is kitted out with a TV, wall art, sink, stove, rug and table. We decorated it with flower and heart stickers, gave it a number plate, and a fold out canopy so that the dolls and dogs can sleep al fresco style…Amongst it all, I did some work, cleaned out a few cupboards, before a trip to the supermarket and home to cook dinner together. Highlight of the day was when my girl said ‘I don’t know why I’m so happy today’. Priceless, top day. Holidays are great.
Isn’t that priceless! Sometimes it is the simplest of things that actually make the kids happy!:) My girls were so busy with their sewing (outfit for their bears) that they actually forgot to have lunch!
